Chapter Information
The Gamma Upsilon Chapter is part of the North Carolina State Organization of the North Carolina of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International. Our chapter is located in beautiful western North Carolina surrounded by scenic mountains and our county is nicknamed "The Land of Waterfalls" with over 100 waterfalls in our area. We assist educators located in the Brevard, Rosman and Lake Toxaway communities.
The mission of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International is to promote professional and personal growth of its members and excellence in education.
The Gamma Upsilon Chapter adheres to and strives to implement the mission, purposes, and vision of The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International.
Gamma Upsilon Bylaws

Article I
The name of this chapter shall be Gamma Upsilon Chapter, North Carolina State Organization, The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International. Reference to Constitution is to the constitution of The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International.
Article II Purpose
The purposes of Gamma Upsilon Chapter shall be the seven purposes of The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International and those of the Eta State Organization.
Article III Membership
Membership is in accordance with the Constitution, Article III and the International Standing Rules, Section 3. The chapter has full authority for the administration of membership.
Candidates for active membership shall be a woman who is employed as a professional educator or who has retired from an educational position. Recommendation forms will be submitted to the Membership Committee. Recommendations will be presented at a regular meeting. A simple majority method of voting will be used. Those accepted by this method will be invited to membership.
The Membership Committee will notify invitees of their recommendation for membership.
The Membership Committee will conduct an orientation session.
The Membership Committee will plan and conduct the initiation ceremony with the assistance of any members they choose.
Reorientation may occur at any time deemed necessary by the membership and/or Membership Committee.
Rules for honorary membership are the same as set forth in the Constitution, Article III, B 3. Reserve members are those that meet requirements set forth in the Constitution, Article III, B 2.
Regular attendance at meetings is expected.
All records of membership shall be kept at the chapter level.
All dues must be paid by the September meeting. Membership may be terminated for nonpayment of chapter dues or upon receipt of a written letter of resignation.
Former members may be reinstated by paying current dues. Members reinstated on or after April 1 and before July 1 shall pay no fees at the time of reinstatement. Dues for the ensuing year shall be paid at the time designated for all members.
Article IV Finance
Financial practices shall be in accordance with the Constitution, International Standing Rules and the North Carolina State Organization bylaws.
The Finance Committee shall be appointed by the Chapter President and shall include the Chapter Treasurer. If the office of Treasurer is an elected one, she is a voting member. The Chapter President is an ex-officio member.
Chapter dues will be determined by chapter vote.
The Finance Committee shall propose methods for raising funds to support the projects of the chapter. Fund raising projects must be approved by the membership.
Contributions may be made to any project with the approval of the Chapter by majority vote.
Grants-in-Aid will be made annually by the chapter.
Article V Organization
Gamma Upsilon Chapter shall govern the conduct of its business in a manner consistent with the Constitution, International Standing Rules, Eta State Bylaws, Eta State Standing Rules the Gamma Upsilon Chapter Rules/Bylaws and Roberts Rules of Order most recent revision.
Gamma Upsilon Chapter is a member of Region XI of Eta State and may participate in initiatives or directives specific to the region.
Article VI Officers and Related Personnel
Gamma Upsilon Chapter officers shall be elected by the membership.
The Nominations Committee will present a slate of officers at the February meeting in even numbered years. Officers will include a President, a Vice-President, a Recording Secretary, a Corresponding Secretary, a Treasurer and such other officers as the Chapter deems necessary.
Officers are elected by a majority vote of members. Elected officers will serve a two-year term.
The Executive Board will fill vacancies among officers which occur during the term of service.
The President will appoint a parliamentarian who is not an officer.
The Chapter Treasurer will order the President’s pin and present it upon installation.
Article VII Executive Board
Gamma Upsilon will have an Executive Board consisting of all officers, the immediate past president, and all standing committee chairpersons. The parliamentarian is an ex-officio member.
The Executive Board will function according to the Constitution, Article VII, Section C. A quorum is a majority of the voting members.
Article VIII Committees
Gamma Upsilon will maintain the committee structure described by the Constitution, Article VIII, Section A. The committee structure will include Charities/Projects, Communications, Finance, Grants-in-Aid, Membership, Nominations, Program, Scrapbook/History.
Committee responsibilities specific to Gamma Upsilon:
Charities/Projects Committee will select and recommend local and Society projects/charities for chapter support.
The Communications Committee will inform the media of chapter activities, produce a newsletter, and contact members as necessary.
The Finance Committee shall propose methods for raising funds to support the projects of the chapter. Fund raising projects must be approved by the membership.

The Grants-in-Aid Committee will receive recommendations for Grant-in-Aid recipients and report to the membership these recommendations. The Committee will notify recipients of their awards and coordinate with the treasurer and president for delivery of the Grant-in-Aid.
The Membership Committee will coordinate the process of inviting, orienting, and initiating new members. See Article III of Gamma Upsilon bylaws.
The Nominations Committee will select and present a slate of officers for votes at the February meeting in even numbered years.
Programs Committee will plan and secure programs for meetings.
Scrapbook/Chapter History Committee will maintain the chapter scrapbook with pictures of meetings, chapter activities and newspaper accounts of meetings. Any other information regarding activities of Gamma Upsilon members may also be collected for placement in the scrapbook.
Article IX Meetings
Five meetings will be held each year in the months of September, October, December, February and April/May.
A quorum at regular meetings is a majority of voting members.
Article X Amendment
Amendments to the bylaws may be made at any meeting where a quorum of the membership is present, and the proposed amendment has been read at a previous meeting.
